Game 1: Albany 21 South Oakland 1
This game combined great pitching (only 1 hit allowed and 3 baserunners total) and amazing hitting (20 total hits, including 4 home runs).
After giving up 1 run to SOLL in the top of 1 (their only hit was a HR), the 11s stormed back with 13 runs in the bottom of the first (led
by Clayton McDonald and Cody Sim hitting back-to-back HRs and then Cody hitting a second home run in his second AB of the inning
(he hit a third HR in the 3rd inning)). We put up “crooked numbers” in each of our three offensive innings. Our pitching was paced by
Ben Miller who pitched two innings (allowing one hit, walking one), Josh Friedkin who pitched a scoreless third and Abraham Hill
who closed out the game in the fourth. 7 players had multi-hit games and every slot in the batting order scored at least 2
runs – a true team effort
Game 2: Albany 13 Walnut Creek 3
Another team effort in Albany 11s 13-3 victory over Walnut Creek. Standout starting pitching by James Goldwyn was a key to this win as were the
nine 2-out hits the team had during its three innings of batting. A big opposite field home run by Gianni Bloom was the drive of the game and multi-hit
games from Eli Townsend (3 hits), JT Freeman (2 hits), Jaxon Stuhr (2 hits) and Gianni Bloom (2 hits) led the offense. The boys really felt comfortable
playing in front of the home crowd at Krone Field.
Game 3: Continental #1 8 Albany 2 (winners bracket final)
The 10-11 squad met a hot pitcher and some solid bats in falling to Continental 8-2. The Albany boys showed some grit (JT Freeman holding the ball at
home while getting run over by a CLL runner; Eli Townsend taking a pitch off the elbow and not flinching; Josh Friedkin getting spiked making a tag at 2B)
and some life in the 6th inning (Cody Sim hitting another HR to drive in Albany’s 2 runs) but were unable to string hits together and fell behind early.
Clayton McDonald had two hits and each of Freeman, Sim, Townsend, Gianni Bloom and Abe Hill added a hit for our offensive attack.

(not pictured Liam Rohlsson, Miles Martinez, Shay Schreibstein)
Game 1: Clayton Valley 5 Albany 4
Shane Kaneshiro pitched his heart out in the Albany opener. He threw five plus innings, striking out six and kept Albany in the game. Albany trailed 2-0 in the 4th when
Henry Brusseau stroked an RBI single to put them on the board. Albany erupted for three more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead. Cory Sterner delivered the
key blow, a line drive two-run double. Anthony Gaskins smacked a deep double and a single and Liam Rohlsson also added a double. Eli Dinneen and Kaneshiro
contributed singles during the big rally.
Game 2: Albany 15 Antioch 6
The Albany bats were loud throughout as they crushed a variety of Antioch pitchers. Brusseau again started the scoring with a first inning inside-the-park home run.
Matt Pascual-Mead delivered big in the second with a bases-clearing double that scored Charles Rauch, Sterner and Brusseau. Starting pitcher Pascual-Mead and
closer Michael Noland sparkled on the mound, shutting down the Antioch offense all night. Kaneshiro hit a deep double to start the five-run third. Jacob Kelly doubled
home two runs in the fifth. Lucas Greenbaum reached base safely three times and scored twice. Sam Trotter walked, scored and played solid defense at 2B.
Game 3: South Oakland 15 Albany 5 (Albany eliminated)
Albany was eliminated from the tournament by South Oakland. Despite the lopsided score, there were some bright spots. Shay Schreibstein made several dazzling
running catches patrolling CF. Catcher Dinneen was solid defensively behind the plate again. Right Fielder Kelly kept Albany close by making a few tough grabs.
Brusseau and Kaneshiro led the offense with hard hit RBI doubles. The team was the only B team from District 4 to participate in the 10-11 draw. The boys did
themselves and Albany proud by finishing in 7th place out of 14 teams.

Game 1: Albany 26 Walnut Creek #1 1
Game 2: Albany 11 North Oakland #1 2
Game 3: Antioch #2 9 Albany 5
The Star: Owen Cooper hit a pair of singles and scored a run in the third for Albany, but his performance wasn't enough to overcome a five-run second inning for Antioch.
The Turning Point: Antioch poured on six runs in the first two innings, three of which were unearned and made the difference in the game.
The Quote: "We had a couple of sloppy defensive first innings. I think that's basically it, and then our team settled down. That was probably the difference. They're
a good team," Albany coach Kellin Copper said.
Who's Next? Albany drops into the losers' bracket, and will play the winner of the Alameda/Clayton Valley game Thursday in Albany
The Bottom Line: A slow start for Albany cost it a spot in the winners' bracket championship and it will be eliminated with one more loss.
Albany Little League's 10-year-old All-Star team coach Kellin Cooper saw what could have been a great comeback for his team dissolve with an odd sequence in
the final inning. What appeared to be a catch by Antioch center fielder Keith Hogan was ruled a trapped ball by the home plate umpire, and the call ended up squashing
a sixth-inning Albany rally in an 8-5 loss in Antioch on Tuesday. "It looked like he caught it to me and he made a great catch," Cooper said. "So that's it, we acted
like it was a great catch by the center fielder." Owen Cooper hit a shallow fly ball to center field, which appeared to have been caught by Hogan in center. The
field umpire seemed to rule it a catch, but the home plate umpire ruled the catch hadn't been made. Jin Youg Heo was ruled out at second due to a force out,
and Cooper was ruled out because he thought the ball had been caught and returned to the dugout. Regardless of what happened in that inning, the elder
Cooper admitted it wasn't the only thing that led to the team's downfall during the July 6 game. "We had a couple of sloppy defensive first innings. I think that's
basically it, and then our team settled down. That was probably the difference," he said. "They're a good team." Albany chipped away at Antioch's early 6-0
lead by scoring in the third, fourth and fifth innings. After a double steal by Cooper and Esai Santos, Arif Zamil hit a single up the middle to knock both runners
in, cutting it to a 6-2 lead. Albany scored once more in the fourth, and took advantage of a pair of Antioch errors to cut the lead to 7-5 in the fifth, but wouldn't
get closer as Antioch tacked on an insurance run in the sixth. "That's just a tough break for them. Albany's a great team, they hit the ball well," said Antioch manager
Butch Felix. "We let them back into the game."

The Albany 9-10 'B' All Stars had a good tournament and enjoyed some hard earned success. We won three games and lost two. We started the tournament winning
7-1 against Martinez #1. We lost to Antioch #2 13-1. In the losers bracket we came back to defeat Concord American 9-8 and Pinole 14-7. Our run ended in a
close game that we lost to Alameda 4-6. Everyone on the team contributed with their bats, gloves and arms.
-David Noland was solid at third base, drove in runs and hit well in every game.
-Luke Mager was strong at second base, crushed a triple in the first game and scored often.
-Mark Riggio-Kerley tracked down fly balls in the outfield, shared in the catching duties and ripped a triple in our first win.
-Cedric Epple made a great shoe string catch in the first game and hit well throughout the tourney.
-Matthew Sim made many great plays at short stop, stole the opposition blind and scored many runs.
-Elias Duchowny started the third game at pitcher, stole bases as a hitter and as a pinch runner and scored important runs.
-Michael Bales was behind the plate for most of the tourney and scored many of our runs.
-Daniel Martinez-Krams was the winning pitcher in our first and fourth games and hit the ball well.
-Evan Mallah was key as our catcher in our game ending strike out / throw out double play in game four. He was also a terror on the base paths.
-Luke Tannahill roamed the outfield catching anything hit near him and hit and scored often. He was also valuable as the team leader during warmups drills.
-Charley Ross drove the ball to the outfield for multiple base hits throughout the tournament and showed some strong glove work at first base.
-Cameron Henritzy pitched very well and hit the ball hard with regularity in all of the games.
-Theo Seeds was invaluable as the relief pitcher in several of the games, earning the save in one game and the win in another. He also hit, ran and scored in most of the games.
It was a great bunch of players, coaches and parents, who came together quickly and did whatever was asked of them to contribute to our winning record in
the 2010 9-10 All Stars District 4 Tournament.

Albany #1 5, Clayton valley I 1
After suffering their first loss to Albany #2, the arms and bats were working for Albany tonight. Josh Friedkin flashed big leather in the Albany infield as well, while catcher Noah Bennett continued his excellent work behind the plate. Elijzah Casanares' single and walks from Jack Ely and Liam Knowles were the offensive highlights for Albany, which moves on to play North Oakland in Concord tomorrow night (July 9) at 6 pm.
Albany #2 5, Albany #1 1
Liam Knowles and Cameron James combined to limit Albany 1 to one run with tremendous defensive support. David Woodfin made several key plays in right field, Noah Bennett and Josh Friedkin were solid in the infield and Ihson Nassiri began a big double play late in the game which killed a rally. Albany #2 played fundamental baseball walking only one batter and committing just one error. Oscar Brown swung a big bat for Albany #2, driving in Josh Friedkin to tie the game in the third inning and knocking in two insurance runs in the fifth.

with two hits and two RBI. Nick Kubler recorded the last out by making a sliding catch against the right-field fence.
July 7 -- Albany 11 South Oakland 4
Albany opened up a tightly contested game in the sixth inning by exploding for seven runs on eight hits. The game
went into the sixth inning tied at 4-4 thanks to a 2-run blast off of the bat of Arlo Rudy in the top of the fifth.
Alex Rowland, Jack Johnson and Kye Moffat combined to go 8-for-12 with four RBI and five runs scored.
July 9 -- Albany 4 Alameda #2 5
July 10 -- Albany 6 Clayton Valley #1 1
July 11 -- Albany 15 Alameda #2 0
July 12 -- Albany 5 Alameda #2 0
After dropping to the loser's bracket by suffering a 5-4 loss at the hands of Alameda, Albany secured
its second consecutive district championship by winning its next three contests by a combined 26-1 score.
In the first game, Alex Rowland, Ben Kleven and Matthew Mino took the mound and limited Clayton Valley to
one unearned run on two hits. Emmett Smay delivered the big hit, driving in two runs in the first inning to make the score 4-0.
Albany won the first game of the championship series, 15-0, behind stellar pitching from Arlo Rudy, who allowed only
three hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Alex Oyle drove a ball to the fence in right center field during a
nine-run explosion in the ninth.
In the game that determined the district champion, Albany kept Alameda scoreless for the second consecutive day
behind great defense and dominant pitching performances from Daniel Dempster and Kleven. With Albany up 2-0
in the first and Alameda threatening to shorten the lead, Rowland caught a line drive to third and quickly flipped a
strike to pick off the runner at second. Another Albany double play stopped an Alameda threat in the bottom of the fourth
when Rudy fielded a grounder at second, stepped on the bag, and threw to first to end the inning. In the fifth inning,
with the score still close at 2-0, Rowland cut a runner down at home to preserve the shutout. Albany then got some
breathing room in the sixth by scoring three times. Mino scored his second run of the game on a Kye Moffat base hit to left,
then Smay brought home Collin Calloway and Moffat with a double. Dempster went 4 and 2/3 innings before giving way
to Kleven, who retired all four batters that he faced.
July 20 -- Albany 13 Benicia 10
Benicia 2 0 2 - 4 2 0 ... 10 9 0
Albany 1 3 1 - 0 8 x ... 13 12 2
Albany's 10s-11s became the youngest Albany team to ever win a sectional title when they rallied for eight runs --
six with two outs -- in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Benicia, 13-10, in the Section 1 championship game and
move on to Division II (state championship) tournament, beginning next weekend in Fremont.
Benicia had pulled ahead, 10-5, going into the bottom of the fifth inning when Collin Calloway hit a two-run home run
to pull Albany to within 10-7. With two outs, Matthew Mino doubled and Alex Rowland and Jack Johnson walked. In
the game's key play, Mino scored on a close play at home on a wild pitch on Johnson's walk to make the score 10-8.
Kai Moffat hit the first of four straight doubles to make the score 10-9. Emmett Smay drove in the tying and go-ahead
runs with a double to right center, and Alex Oyle and Calloway added RBI doubles.
Ben Kleven, who got the victory in relief, got out of a jam in the top of sixth thanks in part to a tremendous play by
Rowland on a ground ball at third base.
July 27 -- Albany 13 Danville 9
Albany outlasted Danville in the first game of the Northern California state championship tournament. Arlo Rudy and
Matthew Mino each went 2-4. Rudy scored three runs and drove in two, while Mino scored two runs and drove in three.
Jack Johnson had the big hit of the game when he belted a 2 -run blast well over the centerfield wall in the fourth inning.
Albany's defense continued to impress with a second inning 4-6-3 double play. It cut down a runner at second
and then at home in the fourth inning. Albany pitchers Rudy, Alex Rowland, Ben Kleven and Daniel Dempster
struck out nine Danville batters.
Aug. 2 -- Albany 2 Saratoga 1
Albany took the lead in the top of the first inning when Matthew Mino hit a ground-rule double over the right fielder
with one out, then stole third and scored on a passed ball.
Albany scored its second run with two outs in the top of the 4th inning when Nick Kubler legged out an infield single,
and Arlo Rudy took the next pitch down the right field line for a run-scoring triple. In the bottom of the inning,
Saratoga got the first three hitters on, but Rudy struck out the next three Saratoga batters. He allowed one run on six hits
with five strike-outs and one walk in five innings.
Ben Kleven came on to pitch the sixth, and with a runner on first and no outs got a double play when Rudy caught a
line drive at second and threw to Alex Oyle at first to double off the runner. The next batter hit a ground ball that
Alex Rowland ranged to his left to secure, and the Albany third baseman fired to first for the final out.

Max Katz-Balmes then hit a sharp grounder to shortstop which was bobbled, allowing another run to score, followed by another run-scoring ground ball up the middle by Austin Warren. With Albany now trailing by only one run, Williams struck out three batters to hold Alameda scoreless in the top of the sixth. In the top of the fourth, Sevrin Weiss and Henry Rosenfeld scored on a two-out single by Austin Warren and then Grady Camps knocked in Warren with a drive up the middle. Andrew Whittemore was solid at catcher and Oscar Brown smoked a key hit in the fourth inning to break the game open.
July 7 -- Albany #2 1 Concord American 11
Albany mounted their only scoring threat in the fifth, when Billy Treseler singled sharply to left, advanced to third on Jeremiah Holmes' booming double to left center, and scored on Cameron James' single.
Elijzah Casanares got two hits and continued his strong play in center field, and Orion Lewallen pitched well in his first outing of the tournament.
July 9 -- Albany #2 2 North Oakland 3 (7 innings)
Albany bowed out of the tournament despite an outstanding pitching performance by Cameron James, who allowed just three hits while striking out eight in four-plus innings. Albany built a 2-0 lead in the third with Jeremiah Holmes and Elijzah Casanares scoring. Casanares tallied on an exciting steal of home. North Oakland rallied with two runs in the fifth to tie the game and won with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh for the win. Casanares continued his hot hitting with two doubles and a single as he led Albany with seven hits for the tournament. Albany had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the 6th inning, but Alameda promptly tied the score and had the bases loaded and no one out in the bottom of the inning. Starting pitcher Robert Wu got out of the jame by inducing the next three batters to ground out.
In the top of the 9th inning, Shan Dhaliwal, the winning pitcher in relief, led off with a single, and Albany got a break with two outs when Wu was safe at first base on an overthrow by the Alameda third baseman. Thomas-McLean followed with the big hit of the game.
In the bottom of the 9th inning, Alameda's first batter singled, and its second batter appeared to follow with another single to center field, but Robin Rosenberg throw the Alameda runner out at second base. 9s-10s #1 (COMPLETED) WINNER'S BRACKET First Round July 3 Albany #1 18 Martinez 2 Matthew Mino, Alex Rowland, and Ben Kleven limited a formidable Martinez lineup to two runs in four innings. The Albany bats were on fire, scoring multiple runs in all four innings. Arlo Rudy and Mino sparked the offense by batting a combined 7-for-7 with eight runs scored. Jesse Barber turned in a defensive gem, racing back and making a leaping grab on line drive headed to right field.
Quarterfinals July 7 Albany #1 12 Lafayette 3 Daniel Dempster pitched three shutout innings and Alex Rowland, Jack Johnson and Emmett Smay combined to go 8-for-12 with 6 RBI. Albany's defense was highlighted by nice catches by Nick Kubler and Julien Scribner. Alex Oyle finished the game strong, throwing 1 2/3 shutout innings.
Semifinals July 10 Albany #1 11 Alameda #1 5 Arlo Rudy pitched four strong innings, giving up only two runs while recording five strike outs. Alex Rowland broke open a close game late when he drove a triple to deep right center that plated three runs. Ben Kleven had one hit in one official at bat but also walked twice and scored three runs. Albany is one win away from moving into the 9s-10s championship game for the second year in a row and third time in the last four years.
Final July 12 Albany #1 5 Clayton Valley #2 3 Alex Oyle, Daniel Dempster, Alex Rowland, and Ben Kleven combined to keep Clayton Valley to just three runs on four hits. With the team trailing, 3-1, in the 4th inning, Matthew Mino came up with the bases loaded and two outs and lined the first strike he saw into the right center-field gap to tie the game. In the 5th inning, Jack Johnson came to the plate with one out and a runner on second, and came through with a timely hit, a ginormous blast over the center-field fence. The '07 10s are believed to be the first Albany team to win the winner's bracket at this age level.

In their first season of postseason play, the 9s-10s matched the
11s-12s, winning six games in six days in the loser's bracket and
advancing to the championship game, where they fell to Alameda (which
swept the sectional title).
Albany put 74 runs on the board in the six wins. It gained revenge for
a controversial loss to East County in its second game to win 13-3.
Cole Martiniak went 3-for-3 and Reed Thomas-McLean was 2-for-2.
In
Albany's 13-6 win over South Oakland, Calvin Bernard, Sami Tuqan,
Robert Wu and Martiniak each had two hits in the victory. Martiniak had
three hits and Matthew Mino and James Stoner two apiece in the 7-1 win
over Walnut Creek that sealed a berth in the championship game.
Only twice in eight games did Albany allow more than three runs. Joe
Franco pitched a complete game to help Albany defeat Walnut Creek.

Antioch West
Pitching and defense that would fuel Albany through the tournament
swept Albany past Antioch West in the opener on South Field at University
Village on Tuesday. Daniel Supple struck out 11 on his way to a 3-hit shut
out win. In the sixth, Antioch hit the ball hard, but hopes riding on a drive
to right vanished when Garrett Freeberg made the catch runnning deep into
the gap. Shortstop Nick Lamb snagged a line drive for out number two,
and an apparent ground ball single was scooped up by second baseman Jacob
Kermish-Wells, whose throw to first ended the game.

Alameda
On Thursday, baserunning and fire smoked Alameda, who opened
with three runs in the first inning. But Paul Kennedy pirating extra bases
and Garrett Freeberg dodging free of a run down kept Albany alive for a bat
around 10-run second inning that saw Kennedy, Lamb, and Kermish-Wells each
score two runs. Smoke from a warehouse fire in West Berkeley blanketed the
field while Albany was hitting and expanding its lead in the last of the
fifth. After a 45 minute delay, umpires called the game -- Albany's first
to end because of fire.
South Oakland
When games resumed after the Independence Day holiday, Jesse Santos
struck out seven and held South Oakland to four hits and no runs through
four innings. His double with two out in the third drove across what became
the winning run. Daniel Supple and Paul Kennedy followed Jesse with bact-to-back
home runs to stretch the lead. After Oakland scored three runs in the fifth,
Zachary Chiang took the mound in relief and pitched a three-up-three
down sixth inning.

Synopsis

San Francisco
From three runs down, Albany fought back to take
a
5-3 lead into the middle of the sixth, when pitching and defense faltered
for the first time, though second baseman Jacob Kermish-Wells turned his
second double play of the game, a tag'm-out throw'm-out twin killing that
left San Francisco trailing 5-4 with two out and none on. But the next
four San Francisicans reached base safely and two scored to send Albany to
play its first post-season elimination game against Vacaville.
Vacaville
Paul Kennedy said hello to Vacaville with a three run homer
in the first inning. Jesse Santos struck out six in four shut out innings
to earn his third tournament win. Gabe Scaglione retired Vacaville in order
in the fifth inning, and Zach Chiang closed out the sixth with two strike
outs. The game started at Noon and played out in 100 degree heat.

Benecia
Benicia scored two unearned runs early off starter Chris Dempster
and loaded the bases in the third when Zach Chiang entered in relief to pitch
out of the jam. Luke Rose scored twice for Albany to tie the score, 2-2.
Gabe Scaglione relieved Chiang and shut out Benicia through the seventh,
when Albany scratched out the win.
Nick Lamb reached on a throwing error and went to third on Luke Rose's
single -- Luke's third hit of the game. When the shortstop fielded Jesse
Santos' grounder and threw to first, Lamb broke for home. The catcher gloved
the relay throw in time, but Nick's hook slide eluded his tag.
San Francisco
Although Albany's 14 hits were its most in any post season game, its
pitching and defense could not contain San Francisco, whose scoring included
five runs without a hit in the fourth inning. Daniel Supple had three
hits, and Jake, Nick, Jesse, and Paul had two each. Paul hit his third
home run of the post season.
Albany hit first and went up 4-0 on Daniel's rbi double and Chris
Dempster's two-run single. It rebounded back into the lead, 9-8, in the fifth
with its own five-run outburst behind rbi singles by Paul, Nick, and Jesse,
but San Francisco answered with six of its own on its next at bat.
Paul Kennedy launched a home run into the parking lot to score Albany's
last run and mark its exit from the tournament with consument baseball style.
