Berkeley-Albany Little League Divisions & Player Placement

Berkeley-Albany Little League (BALL) provides recreational baseball for boys and girls ages 5–14, focused on Fun, sportsmanship, teamwork and skill development.

Players ages 8–14 will be asked to attend an on-field player evaluation, which helps the league place players in the most appropriate division to ensure balanced teams and positive experiences for all participants.

  • All ages are determined as of August 31 per Little League Baseball guidelines.

Minors Divisions (Ages 5–11)

T-Ball • Rookie • A • AA • AAA

The Minors program introduces and develops fundamental baseball skills in a supportive, age-appropriate environment.

Player Placement (Ages 5–9)

Players ages 5–9 are placed based on:

  • Age

  • Prior baseball experience

  • Player and family preference

  • Evaluation by Division Commissioners and the Player Agent

Division Overview

  • T-Ball (Ages 5–6)

    For players new to baseball, with an emphasis on fun, confidence, and basic skills.

  • Rookie (Ages 5–7)

    For players who have completed T-Ball or are beginning organized baseball.

    Some 7-year-olds may remain in Rookie based on experience or evaluation.

  • A Division (7-8)

    Primarily for experienced 7-year-olds and 8-year-olds with limited experience.

  • AA Division (8-10)

    Teams consist of 8,9 and 10-year-olds and are formed using player evaluations to promote competitive balance.

  • AAA Division (Ages 9–11)

    A more advanced Minors division. Players under age 9 may request consideration.

Majors Division (Ages 10-12)

The Majors division represents the highest level of recreational baseball within BALL.

    • All 12-year-olds are placed in Majors

    • 10- and 11-year-olds are placed in Majors or AAA based on evaluations conducted by league leadership

Intermediate Division (11-13)

For players seeking a more competitive experience on a larger field.

  • 70-foot bases

  • 50-foot pitching distance

  • Leads and base stealing allowed

Eligibility

  • Players must be 11 or 12 as of August 31, or

  • Turn 13 between May 1 and August 31

Placement is determined through evaluations by the Division Commissioner and Player Agent.

Registering for Intermediate does not guarantee placement.

Players not selected will be offered a spot in the Majors division.

Juniors Division (13-14)

Designed for older players who are ready for advanced competition and continued development on a full-size baseball field.

  • 90-foot bases

  • 60 feet, 6 inches pitching distance

  • Leads, steals, and full baseball rules in effect

Player placement is based on age eligibility and on-field evaluation, ensuring a competitive and developmentally appropriate experience.

Challenger Division (Ages 5–18)

What is the Challenger Division?
The Challenger Division of the Berkeley Albany Little League is for youth who have a variety of disabilities, enabling them to play baseball in an environment that accommodates and celebrates their abilities. Parents/guardians are asked to participate as “Buddies” whenever possible.
 
  • Open to players ages 5–18

  • No prior baseball experience required

  • Co-ed teams

  • Parents and guardians are encouraged to participate as Buddies

The Challenger season runs March through June and emphasizes fun, confidence, and community.

2026 BALL Challenger Spring Season

More Details on Who may sign up?
Our co-ed teams are made up of players ages 5-18 who have a variety of disabilities, including, but not limited to: autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, sensory processing disorder, speech and language disorders, muscular dystrophy, heart conditions, down syndrome, and low vision. No previous baseball experience is required.  If the participant does not have a disability, then Challenger is not the right division.
 
When and where are games?
Our season runs from March 9th through June 8th.
 
How much does it cost and how do we register?
Registration is free, and all players will be given a jersey and a team cap.
