Team ROLES for Success

Mandatory Team & Coaching Roles – 2026 Season

To ensure a safe, organized, and positive experience for players and families, each team in Berkeley Albany Little League (BALL) is required to have the following roles filled for the 2026 season.

These roles support game operations, player safety, communication, and overall team success.


Required Team Roles (All Teams)

1) Head Coach

The head coach is responsible for overall team leadership, including:

  • Player development and instruction
  • Practice and game management
  • Communication with league leadership
  • Ensuring league rules, safety policies, and conduct standards are followed

2) Assistant Coach

Assistant coaches support the head coach by:

  • Assisting with practices and games
  • Helping with instruction and player supervision
  • Supporting team organization and safety

3) Bench Coach

The bench coach helps manage:

  • Dugout organization and player flow
  • Batting order and substitutions
  • Player readiness and safety during games

This role is especially important during games to keep play moving smoothly and player dugout experiences.


4) Team Parent

The team parent supports off-field team operations, including

  • Team communication and coordination
  • Supporting scheduling and logistics
  • Helping with team needs and league communication

The team parent helps ensure information flows clearly between coaches and families.


5) Scorekeeper (GameChanger)

Each team must have a designated scorekeeper responsible for:

  • Managing GameChanger during games
  • Keeping accurate game records
  • Ensuring rosters are set up correctly

⚠️ GameChanger is mandatory, and games may be forfeited if the required setup is not completed.


Additional Required Role (Select Divisions)

6) Youth Umpire Advocate

Required for AA, AAA, Majors, and Intermediate divisions

The Youth Umpire Advocate role exists to:

  • Support youth umpires during games
  • Help maintain a respectful environment
  • Serve as a point of contact between coaches, umpires, and league leadership

This role helps reinforce positive behavior and sportsmanship on and off the field.

Establishing these roles early helps create a smooth, respectful, and successful season for everyone involved.
