Mandatory Safety Training for Little League Volunteers
Berkeley Albany Little League (BALL) is committed to providing a safe, positive, and well-prepared environment for all players, volunteers, and families. As part of Little League International’s updated safety program and California state requirements, volunteers must complete specific annual training.
An instruction sheet prepared by District 4 outlines:

These are all trainings and below are the LLI-mandated trainings in addition to the California-required Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest trainings that all applicable volunteers must complete.
Required Training Courses
1. Abuse Awareness Training (In LL PDF)
This course helps identify and prevent abuse in youth sports by educating volunteers on proper conduct and reporting procedures.
Required annually for all volunteers

2. Safety Awareness Training
Required for managers, coaches, and board members. This training covers league-wide safety expectations and risk prevention. Required annually for managers, coaches and board members

3. First Aid Awareness Training
Required for managers, coaches, and board members. This course provides guidance on responding to common injuries and medical situations.Required annually for managers, coaches and board members
📌 First Aid Awareness Training
4. Concussion Training(California-mandated)
Concussions are a serious concern in youth sports. This training provides essential knowledge on how to recognize, respond to, and prevent head injuries.(Required annually under California law)

4. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Training (California-mandated)
Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in young athletes. This training equips volunteers with life-saving skills to recognize and respond to SCA emergencies. (Required annually under California law)

5. Diamond Leader Training( LL All-Star / Future stars but recommended by BALL every two years)
This leadership training is designed to help coaches and volunteers foster a positive and supportive experience for Little League players, focusing on teamwork, sportsmanship, and youth development.
Required for All-Star and Future Star team coaches. BALL is Strongly recommended for all coaches. Returning coaches are encouraged to complete this training at least once every two years

Completion Requirement
All volunteers must complete these training programs before the start of the season and provide proof of certification to the league administrator.
- Training must be completed through Little League University (LLU) to ensure proper credit
- Volunteers must select Berkeley Albany Little League during LLU account setup
- Completion records and certificates are visible to league and district administrators through LLU reporting

Uploading Training Certificates to SportsConnect
After completing the required safety trainings, certificates must be uploaded to the volunteer’s SportsConnect profile.
Each completed course provides a PDF certificate. Save each certificate so it is ready for upload.
How to Upload Certificates
- Visit the SportsConnect website:
- Log in using the same account used to register as a volunteer
- Select Volunteer from the left-hand navigation menu
- Locate your name and click the edit (pencil) icon next to it
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the plus (+) icon next to the document upload section
- Upload the appropriate certificate file(s)
- Click Save and Exit when finished
Uploading certificates promptly ensures volunteer records remain complete and up to date for the season.
Additional Safety Program Updates
- Under the updated Little League International Safety Program, completion of Safety Awareness and First Aid Awareness training replaces the need for an annual in-person Safety & First Aid meeting
- As part of the new safety requirements, the league must have an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) available and accessible on-site during league activities
- The league is currently coordinating AED placement and access procedures
Maintaining a safe environment requires shared responsibility, preparation, and adherence to established standards. These training requirements ensure that all volunteers are equipped to support players safely and responsibly throughout the season.
